November 8, 2021 – Orcosa congratulates Dr. Michael J. Alaia of NYU Langone Health Orthopedic Hospital for receiving Best Paper Award at the 2021 Sir Robert Jones Alumni Scientific Program in recognition of his outstanding research paper Cannabidiol Significantly Improves Early Post-Operative Pain and Patient Satisfaction after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Placebo Controlled, Randomized, Double Blinded Multi-Center Trial.
At the lecture series, Dr. Alaia presented interim findings from his study, an investigator-initiated multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted in partnership with Baptist Health/Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute, aiming to evaluate the safety and impact on post-operative pain of cannabidiol (CBD) delivered utilizing Orcosa’s Rapid Infusion Technology (RITe™) Platform (ORAVEXX™). The trial, which plans to enroll 100 patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, will also evaluate patient satisfaction and changes in opioid consumption over a 14-day postoperative period.
The annual Sir Robert Jones Lecture, first delivered at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute in 1930, continues the tradition of excellence in orthopedics through the work of distinguished contemporary scholars while honoring the achievements of Sir Robert Jones. The papers presented combine clinical experiences and results, and basic science research that involves anatomical, biomechanical, and animal research. The 2021 Sir Robert Jones Lectures was held on November 4 – 5 at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
Dr. Alaia is joined by co-authors Eoghan T. Hurley, Danielle H. Markus, Kinjal Vasavada, Briana Britton, Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas, MD, Andrew S. Rokito, MD, Laith M. Jazrawi, MD, from NYU Langone Health and Kevin Kaplan, MD of Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Florida in receiving this prestigious award.
